Big Bold Birthday – 30 Day Card Challenge, Day 5

SKP Watermarked Photos5-145

This fun birthday card was inspired by a napkin!! Some weeks ago there was a birthday celebration at work. After the party, the extra supplies were left in the kitchen and the napkins in particular caught my eye, so I brought one home! I loved all of the bright colors πŸ™‚

Isn’t it cute?? I realized that the Party Pop-Up Thinlits Dies mimicked the sentiment on the napkin very well and I was off to the races!! I did have to pull out the retired Coastal Cabana for this card, but that’s okay because in my humble opinion, Coastal Cabana should never have been retired in the first place, and I hope to see it again in the next color update (hoping!)

Card Details:

  • The Happy Birthday die cut has been layered three times. On the top layer I snipped off the cake base and replaced it with a Real Red cake base. I did the same for the candles and the flames. Not the easiest thing ever, but I love a challenge!
  • You can’t see it on the napkin but there is a flower on the cake base so I used the retired Itty Bitty Punch Pack to punch a simple flower and used a Basic Black Candy Dot for the center.
  • I added 1/4″ Daffodil Delight Cotton Ribbon (It’s such a nice ribbon), embossed the Coastal Cabana layer with the Polka Dot Embossing Folder and somehow…all of that was not enough!!
  • So I pulled out handy dandy Candy DotsΒ and added a fun detail above and below the Happy Birthday. They add a bit more fun and color to the card, and a lot of colors indeed! Real Red, Pear Pizzazz, Perfect Plum, Daffodil Delight, Island Indigo, and Elegant Eggplant!!

I carried the them inside as well, using a sentiment from the Party With Cake stamp set from the Occasions catalog.

What do you think? Inspiration can be found all around us and I love when something jumps out at me like that πŸ™‚ This was super, super fun to make. I hope you like it!

Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Oh what fun! Your card brings a smile. You also brought a smile when you mentioned your idea source. Napkins used to be ideas sources for my bulletin boards when I was in the classroom. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
