Birthday Greetings – Tic Tac Toe Challenge #60

Hello there my crafty friends! It’s Thursday and that means it’s time for another Tic Tac Toe Challenge, this time Amy has created our super inspiring challenge board:

I chose to use the far right column, incorporating grass, a square (or two ;), and layers (I LOVE layers) to create a clean masculine birthday card:

Measurements:

Gray Granite Card Base 4 1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5 1/2″
Pretty Peacock Card Stock Layer: 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″
Botanical Prints DSP Layer: 3 5/8″ x 4 3/4″

Details:

While browsing online for inspiration, I came across a card made with this jaw-dropingly gorgeous geometric pattern paper from the Botanical Prints product medley. I just KNEW I had to pull it out and create something with it myself! BTW, this amazing medley of products is on clearance right now, down from $70 to only $42 – isn’t that an AMAZING price for all of these goodies?!?

I began this project right after going through the retiring items list from Stampin’ Up!, and I had seen quite a few items retiring that I hadn’t even pulled out yet to use, so with that in mind I reached for the Animal Outing stamp set. Such a darling rhinoceros! (I never ever thought that I would use the word ‘darling’ to describe a rhinoceros, but here we are!)
I stamped him in with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and then quickly die cut him with the coordinating die; popped him up with Stampin’ Dimensionals onto a Pretty Peacock die-cut square, and then adhered both to a Gray Granite die-cut scalloped square.
I loved the sizing distance between the Pretty Peacock square and the Gray Granite scalloped square so I mimicked that in the sizing of my base layers, keeping a 3/8″ distance between the two. It leaves a nice glimpse of all of the colors.
I then tried really hard to add twine to my card, but just couldn’t quite pull that trigger – I was trying to use the center column of the challenge board (die-cut, twine, animals) but the twine just seemed to insubstantial next to all those thick layers. I then reached for this Pretty Peacock 1/2″ Scalloped Linen Ribbon which I to be honest, prior to now, hadn’t given much thought to but it was what I had in Pretty Peacock so I wrapped it around my layers and tied it into a knot, and – WOW! it is SO stunning! I will need to reach for it more often!

At this point I realized that I had not left space for a sentiment! (eek!), but after some pondering I found this darling sentiment in the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set (it’s an awesome set!) and realized that I would be able to continue with the “square’ theme of my card! Perfect! I just stamped it in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, die cut it with the smallest square in the Stitched Shapes die set and using Stampin’ Dimensionals, adhered it to my card at a fun angle!
By now I’ve realized that the twine just will not be making an appearance on this card (I had been holding out hope for it), so I had to go back to the challenge board and decided to move to the far right column and add some grass to my card. This image from the Animal Outings stamp set, stamped, die cut, trimmed down, and tucked behind the sentiment looks to me like tall African grasses!

I loved the clean look of this card so decided to STOP and not add anything else. Tall order, but I did it! 🙂
For the last step, I added some fun elements to the inside of the card, as well as adding randomly places grasses to the envelope flap using the same stamp I used for the grass around the sentiment:

A Flowery Hello – Tic Tac Toe Challenge #58

Welcome! It’s Thursday and time for another Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge! I LOVE the design possibilities the challenge board offers and LOVE to see how YOU use it! This week Felicita is the featured designer – her board is SO awesome!! I went with a diagonal, from right to left: Layers, Ribbon, Stripes:

Details:

When I first looked at the challenge board, I was going to use the far left column: Vibrant, Circle, Stripes. With that in mind, I reached for this long retired DSP, Best Year Ever. I have always loved it, especially those big blue watercolored stripes! With “vibrant’ in mind, I looked online for color combinations. Ultimately I went with one I came up with myself: Coastal Cabana, Call Me Clover, Pineapple Punch and Lovely Lipstick. Something to keep in mind if you like these colors together – all of the colors I have used with the exception of Coastal Cabana will be retiring June 2nd, so grab some now while you can!

The vase image comes with both an outline/design image and a solid color image so I combined the two. I stamped the one in Memento Tuxedo Black and the other in Coastal Cabana. I didn’t ink up the solid image perfectly, but I love the varied shades of blue as the result, it’s lighter in the middle and I think that’s perfect! I then colored the leaves in the vase with Call Me Clover – SO pretty!!
The flowers image was colored in Pineapple Punch with Lovely Lipstick centers and a bit of Wink of Stella on the petals. I do want to mention that there is a stamp image that will color in all of the flowers, I just chose to color it this time instead.
I was having trouble lining up the vase image with the flowers image so I reached for the coordinating Vase Builder Punch and just punched that vase out! 🙂

I pulled the sentiment from the Varied Vases companion stamp set, Varied Vases, for a super simple design. And it works well for me as I have been sending cards out to family and friends, just to check in during these ‘social distancing’ times.
I played around with colors in my layers, ultimately settling on Call Me Clover and Pineapple Punch. But my finished card needed just a bit more Lovely Lipstick in it to balance everything out. Alas, I don’t have any Lovely Lipstick ribbon or Baker’s Twine, but…I DO have my Stampin’ Blends!! Stampin’ Blends to the rescue again!! I found this darling Whisper White Organza Ribbon in my retired stash – never even opened! I attached my itty bitty bow with a few glue dots.
As you can see, my completed card has NO circles on it – oh no!!! But after reviewing the board again I realized that I DID have all of the elements for the diagonal row Layered, Ribbon, Stripes – whew!! And that is what is so fun about the tic tac toe board – SO many options!!

I reached for more coordinating images from the Varied Vases stamp set for the interior of the card. Doesn’t it look sweet stamped in Pineapple Punch?
I have a confession to make. I always take, and share, a photo of the interior of the card because if I don’t, 90% of the time I won’t finish the interior! Eek! It’s true, I have a tendency to finish the front and want to call it ‘good’. And if I don’t finish the interior, then I won’t be bothered with stamping my ‘stamped by’ stamp on the back, and it will be anarchy in my stamp room!! Cards laying half finished everywhere!! I know, it’s a terrible thought, so this is my way of keeping order, lol 🙂

The Nicest Things – The Paper Players 482 & TGIF Challenge 255

Hello there and Happy Friday, my peeps!! It’s been raining here again in Southern California and the perfect reason to pull out some darling paper and an even more darling-er (if that’s possible) stamp image!!

Details:

I recently acquired this stamp set, The Nicest Things, secondhand. It’s vintage Stampin’ Up! and so, so sweet. Those little girls – oh, I just can’t even!
Tons of coloring today so let me break it down for you
- The dress on the right is Light & Dark Purple Posy with a Light Mint Macaron Apron with Light Pretty Peacock detailing on the apron. The base for her hair is Dark Daffodil Delight with additions of Light & Dark Crumb Cake and Bronze
- The dress on the left is Light & Dark Mint Macaron with Light & Dark Daffodil Delight for the trim and the blouse. The base for her hair is Light So Saffron with additions of Dark So Saffron and Light & Dark Daffodil Delight
- The basket is Light & Dark Crumb Cake
- The grass is Light & Dark Old Olive
- Three of the flowers are Light & Dark Lovely Lipstick; the fourth flower is Light Mint Macaron and Light & Dark Pretty Peacock
- The girls’ skin tone is Light & Dark Petal Pink.

To keep with the inspiration sketch, I added three Basic Rhinestones Jewels and colored them with Pretty Peacock and Blackberry Bliss.
The intricate detail cut to the left of the focal image was achieved by using the Delicate Lace Dies. I have been itching to try them out, I love it! What do you think? Yay or Nay?
I used two different patterns from the Best Dressed DSP line and incorporated the colors from that DSP when coloring my little darlings.

Just Cheeky – Tic Tac Toe Challenge #56

It’s Thursday which means it is time for another Tic Tac Toe Challenge! We’re using a board created for us by our featured designer, LeAnne. Pick a row, column or diagonal and play along! This time I went for the far left column and chose Easter Sentiment, Chick, Yellow.

I’ve gone through ALL of my stamps and pulled out everything Spring and Easter related so fair warning that there will be lots of cheerful cards on my blog for the next while!!

Details:

This sweet card began with the cue word chick. I have very recently purchased this red rubber stamp called Baby Chick Totem from Whimsy Stamps. It just cracks me up, I love it so!! And it really reminds me of the characters by the Current Catalog company from many years ago, I believe entitled Suzy’s Zoo. I wonder if they are still around?!?

I went really bright with the colors today – I’m so pleased that Stampin’ Up! has added some really bright colors to their offerings. I started the chicks with a base of Light So Saffron, and then blended in both Light and Dark Mango Melody. Their beaks and limbs are Light and Dark Pumpkin Pie, the leaves are Light and Dark Call Me Clover, and the teeny flowers are Light Blackberry Bliss.
The Easter sentiment is from Stampin’ Up!’s Itty Bitty Greetings – itty bitty was perfect for this card!

I found some white baker’s twine in my stash and colored it with my Dark Mango Melody Stampin’ Blend – it’s SO fun to make custom colors!!
And of course both the flowers and the chicks have had Wink of Stella added – I just LOVE the sparkle!

The interior of my card is quite simple, just a stitched rectangle as I wanted it to be in keeping with the rest of the card – clean and simple, letting the colored image take center stage.
I adore this darling DSP that I found to match everything perfectly – it’s from the Birthday Bonanza DSP!

Sending Shamrocks – Freshly Made Sketches 426

I have realized that St. Patrick’s Day is almost here so I dove into my very small but very sweet stash of stamps for aforesaid occasion and put them to work!!

Details:

I must confess that the traditional shade of green used for St. Patrick’s Day is probably my least favorite shade of all greens. {shudder} so I found a delightful combination of greens and blues in this pretty paper Plaid Patterns – Merry & Bright by MFT Stamps. Christmas paper of all things!!

I took my lead from the colors in the paper and used Granny Apple Green and Balmy Blue Stampin’ Blends to color this darling image by Fun stampers Journey.
I layered a piece of Balmy Blue card stock embossed with the Subtle embossing folder over a slightly larger piece of Pear Pizzazz card stock and then set the whole thing on top of a white card base.
A simple sentiment from the same stamp set and a bit of Wink of Stella complete this simple but sweet card. I LOVE the hint of St. Patrick’s Day in it!

The inside is very simple as well, leaving me a large space to write my message. I’m going to pop this in the mail to my mom!
