Will You Be My Valentine? – The Paper Players 379

Stampin-Up-Sure-Do-Love-You-Valentine-and-Love-Card-Idea-Shannon-Jaramillo-stampinup

A few days ago when I was pulling out possible designer series paper options for this card, this was one of the patterns I pulled out. I loved it as soon as I saw it, and since it fit perfectly with The Paper Players challenge this week, I set it aside to create with! It’s part of a bright and fun pack of Designer Series Paper called Bubbles & Fizz which is available for free with any $50 purchase during Sale-A-Bration!

Measurements:

  • Card Base 4 1/2″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • Calypso Coral Layer 3 3/4″ x 5″
  • DSP Layer 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″
  • White Layer 2 3/4″ x 3 1/2″

Details:

  • When I saw the Sure Do Love You stamp set in the catalog, I flipped right on by…wasn’t interested in more Valentine’s Day stamps. But on about my tenth pass through the catalog (do you do that too?), it caught my eye and I realized that the large heart was darling, oh! and then the banner, oh! and then what a cute saying in the other heart! Love button. And of course, if I purchase the Sure Do Love You bundle, I save 10%! That’s how we roll around here!

  • If you look closely at the stamped heart, you will see that what appear to be connected petals are actually hearts…love button again! I stamped it with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then die cut the middle out with the coordinating Lots to Love Box Framelits Dies. I snipped around the outside with my Paper Snips and popped it up onto a die cut rectangle.
  • The frame for the heart was created using largest square die in the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies. How did I make a rectangle out of a square? I positioned the square die with one side hanging about a 1/2″ off the edge of the Magnetic Platform, cutting edge up, and secured it with a small piece of wash tape. I then laid the 2 3/4″ x 3 1/2″ piece of white card stock on top, lining the edges up straight and securing THAT with another piece of washi tape. I ran all of that through the Big Shot, stopping when I hit the edge of the magnetic platform, rolled it back through, lifted the card stock off the die, turned it around and laid it down just like I had previously, ran it through the Big Shot again and voila! a stitched rectangle!Stampin-Up-Sure-Do-Love-You-Valentine-and-Love-Cards-Idea-Shannon-Jaramillo-stampinup
  • The heart was popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals and positioned on the frame, the sentiment stamped and die cut, a matching heart was cut with the heart die and laid into the center of the heart…I love the dimensional look it has…and then I positioned the sentiment on top!
  • A few posts ago I mentioned that I had “discovered” my Lemon Lime Twist Ombre Ribbon, well today I discovered my Calypso Coral Ombre Ribbon! lol I ran my adhesive across the back of the white rectangle layer and then randomly laid the ribbon out behind it, and adhered the whole thing to the card.
  • A few Black Rhinestones (retired) add a little bling and draw attention to the sentiment.

Stampin-Up-Sure-Do-Love-You-Valentine-and-Love-Cards-Ideas-Shannon-Jaramillo-stampinup

  • I kept the inside simple with this heart shaped sentiment. The shape and the sentiment itself are fabulous! As you can see, I added an additional layer of white card stock to the inside of the card. I have noticed that this layer of my cards tends to warp when displayed, probably because I add so much to the front, hopefully this additional layer will keep them from doing that!

Thank you Claire and The Paper Players for a sweet challenge this week! I sure enjoyed playing along!

Thank you for popping over to my little blog!

Blessings!

All Because Two People Fell in Love – Sunday Stamps 170

Lil-Inker-Because-Love-and-Friendship-Card-Idea-Shannon-Jaramillo-lilinker

I decided to break out new paper, stamps and dies for this card that I made using the most recent Sunday Stamps sketch. I chose this sketch for the simple reason that the idea of three squares down one side of the card boggles my mind. So…challenge accepted!

Measurements:

  • Card Base 4 1/2″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • Base Panel 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Blue Layer 4 7/8″ x 3 5/8″
  • Striped Layer 4 7/8″ x 3 5/8″

Details:

  • I adore this new quilted heart die that I got for FREE with my order from Concord & 9th. And I saw this sentiment stamp and die set from Lil ‘Inker and knew that was the perfect sentiment for this card…but how to merge the two and still keep with the inspiration sketch? Hmmm…
  • Once the stamps and dies were chosen…now paper! My favorite accessory! I literally went through all of my 6 x 6 paper stash and had lots of fun options, but I have been purchasing scrapbooking kits from Felicity Jane and these papers from the ‘Heidi’ line are GORGEOUS!!!

Lil-Inker-Because-Love-and-Friendship-Card-Ideas-Shannon-Jaramillo-lilinker

  • I used the weathered wood paper for one of the quilted hearts and for the base layer as well. Then I chose two patterns from the same line and die cut them with a stitched rectangle die and added them at canted angles for a fun effect.
  • Everything being a little wonky made trying to line my hearts up straight a bit of an issue! I finally (and don’t laugh) took a piece of twine, lined it up on my Stampin’ Grid Paper, taped it down at the top and bottom, and then slid my card base under the twine. One I made sure the card was straight as well, I used the line of the twine to aline the center points of the each heart, at the top and at the point. That made it much easier to be straight, but I’m sure there is a better way to have done this!

Lil-Inker-Because-Love-and-Friendship-Cards-Ideas-Shannon-Jaramillo-lilinker

  • The ‘because’ die has a matching stamp. I tried stamping the stamp and then die cutting it, but couldn’t line everything up, then I tried cutting the die cut out and lining it up with the stamp set in my MISTI and that worked better but the ‘s’ in the stamp and the die aren’t quite the same! Third time is a charm, right? I simply took the stamped die and turned it upside down into my Onyx Versafine ink! That did the trick! And it’s REALLY black! I love it!
  • I added a bit of Powder Pink shimmer ribbon in the upper left hand corner and anchored it with a Black Rhinestone Jewel.A couple more in the lower right hand corner for balance and voila!

I’m pretty happy with how the card turned out. I wanted to try to create a more modern, maybe a little of a ‘Joanna Gaines’ type valentine card and think I achieved that goal. Enjoy the rest of your day and I will see you soon! If you have a minute, I would love hearing your feedback!

Here’s the sketch I used from Sunday Stamps:

I’m also playing along with the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge which is Use Patterned Paper.

Blessings to you.

Feeling Puny – The Paper Players 375

Clearly Besotted-Feeling-Sheepish-Love-and-Friendship-Card-Idea-Shannon-Jaramillo

Hello my stamping friends! Isn’t this little ewe absolutely darling? Oh my gosh, I want to eat him up!

I woke up this morning and checked the latest Paper Players challenge and saw that it was a theme this week…a ‘puny’ Valentine. I immediately thought ‘no way’ because ‘cutesy’ type cards are a bit out of my element, and then I thought “wait a minute, don’t give up so easily. It IS a challenge, after all!” So I pulled on my big girl panties and started going through my stamps. Lo and behold, I found the PERFECT stamp almost immediately!

Measurements:

  • Card Base 4 1/2″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • White Layer 3 3/8″ x 5 1/8″
  • Flowered Layer 3 3/8″ x 2 1/4″
  • Dark Strip 3 3/8″ x 5/8″
  • Pink Strip 3 3/8″ x 1/2″

Details:

  • I’m slowly stepping out of my comfort zone and playing with coloring. Large areas still scare me to death but I thought I could manage this little ewe from Clearly Besotted’s Feeling Sheepish stamp set. Unfortunately this set is retired but it’s been replaced with a set called ‘Ewe Are Awesome’ that features the same darling sheep and grasses.
  • I stamped the ewe onto a post it note and trimmed him out so I could place him on my card where I wanted him to go, and then stamped the grassy image twice, once on each side of the ewe. I then pulled the mask off and stamped the ewe where the mask had been.

  • The ewe’s feet caused me to have to think carefully as they hung down into my pattern paper area. I eventually figured out to stamp the feet onto the pattern paper, cut them out, and then stamp the feet onto a scrap of white cardstock, cut THEM out and then place them into the empty spaces in the pattern paper. Sheesh!
  • I colored this darling little guy with my ShinHan Touch Twin Markers in shades that I thought would compliment the super sweet pattern paper.
  • And the sentiment?1? Puny as can be!!
  • I finished the card off with coordinating hand trimmed banners, button, and a sweet bow. Love that little finishing touch!

What do you think? I think he’s a keeper, just like my hubby 🙂

Here’s the challenge graphic for the Paper Players challenge this week. Stop on by as they have created some super adorable puny cards to inspire you!!

Jumping Right in to 2018 with Tic Tac Toe Challenge #29

Stampin-Up-Bloomin-Heart-Love-and-Friendship-Card-Idea-Shannon-Jaramillo-stampinup

Hello friends! I’m back from a blogging hiatus and jumping right in to 2018! Well, actually a few days later than I had planned because I caught the bug that’s going around and was sick from Christmas through New Year’s 🙁 But I’m back on track and playing along with the Tic Tac Toe Challenge today!

When I saw the board for this week, the top row grabbed me immediately and pretty soon this card popped into my head, complete. Does that happen to you too? I tried to add layers, borders, ribbon, SOMETHING, but nope…this card had to stay exactly as I had envisioned it in my head!

Details:

  • This is an unusually clean card for me…I rarely have just a one layer base, but hey, never say never!
  • I used the Blooming’ Heart Thinlit Die and Red Glimmer Paper for the heart…it’s SO sparkly and doesn’t need any further embellishment!
  • The ‘love’ sentiment die is from the Sunshine Wishes Dies. I didn’t ever purchase the black glimmer paper (how did I miss that?) so I improvised. I applied a layer of Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets to a scrap of white cardstock and then ran it through the Big Shot twice with the ‘love’ die. I then peeled the adhesive off of one of the dies and adhered it to the other die for depth. I then peeled the adhesive off the top die and dipped the whole thing into some retired Black Glitter I had from several years ago and voila! Black Glimmer Paper!

Stampin-Up-Bloomin-Heart-Love-and-Friendship-Card-Ideas-Shannon-Jaramillo-stampinup

  • It actually didn’t turn out as nicely as I had hoped…if I ever try it again I will use black card stock rather than white! Live and learn 🙂
  • I did snip really skinny pieces of Stampin’ Dimensionals and adhere them to the back of the ‘love’ die to give it some separation from the heart.
  • I used the Labeler Alphabet stamp set to quickly stamp out the ‘you’ and then snipped it down to size and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Stampin-Up-Bloomin-Heart-Love-and-Friendship-Cards-Idea-Shannon-Jaramillo-stampinup

  • The inside is just as clean and simple as the outside, the Labeler Alphabet really is fun to use once you let go of “perfect”. I have a hard time letting go, so I’m particularly pleased with myself for not corrected my slight wobble with the ‘U’! It’s the little things in life…

And THAT’S it folks! So clean and simple and a great start to a new year! Make sure you stop by and see all of the Tic Tac Toe Challenge design team’s awesome samples for you, and then play along! There are so many options this week!

So Special to Me – NBUS Challenge #11

You Are So Special Card Ideas - Shannon Jaramillo The Stamps of Life

Today’s card is so special to me! Pun intended 🙂 Seriously though, it’s so rewarding to disappear into my craft room after the day’s work is done and pour myself into making something pretty. Can you relate?

I was inspired by a card I saw (somewhere) using a big banner and a large die cut sentiment and it rolled around in my head and then this popped out 🙂

Almost all of the product used here came from a Stamps of Life Card Kit. The pattern paper is from an older kit. When I saw it, I knew it would be perfect for my banner card! I ran into a bit of a problem though when I discovered that although this paper was in a card kit, this deep blue-purple color is not offered as a card stock or ink in The Stamps of Life product line. What? Luckily for me there was a solid piece of pattern paper in the pad that I was able to use in place of card stock. And the ribbon? I found the PERFECT shade (Royal Velvet) in my Papertrey Ink stash! Can you believe it? A month or so ago, they had all of their ribbon on clearance so I was able to get one roll of almost every color for about $30 total. Wow, right? And it worked out perfectly!! 🙂

You Are So Special Cards Ideas - Shannon Jaramillo The Stamps of Life

The die came in a card kit…isn’t it sweet? I did puzzle over how I would use it. “So Special” doesn’t really seem like a stand alone sentiment to me so I went hunting and found two different options of “You Are” in my TSOL stamp sets. I inked one of them up and then die cut it with a stitched circle die. But once I had it in place everything seemed off balance for me (and I had Lionel Richie crooning “You are so beautiful…to Meeee” in my head) so I went hunting again and found another sentiment that actually reads “To You, From Me”. A bit of creative stamping and voilà! I think it turned out very charming 🙂

You Are So Special Card Idea - Shannon Jaramillo The Stamps of Life

The stitched banner is courtesy of a die from Sunny Studios. I HAD to have it about two years ago and I’m sorry to say, this is the first time it’s been used. But there are four options for the fishtail and this is a fun layout so I think we’ll see a variation on this card in the future…

Now, today I am playing along with the NBUS (Never Before Used Schtuff) challenge. And the challenge is not only to use something not used before, but also to share a boo-boo or two. GASP!! What?!? Imperfection? Never!! Well…okay, if you insist…

You Are So Special Card Ideas - Shannon Jaramillo Stamps of Life.jpg

Yes, on my first attempt, I die cut the fish tail upside down. And then sat there staring at the half with the stitching thinking “How can this be?”. Yep, a great way to ruin a perfectly good piece of pretty paper 🙂

And since I’m owning up to my mistakes, when I put this card together, I adhered everything flat. Then I decided that the banner needed to be popped up from the other pattern paper so I lifted the whole thing and re-adhered everything. It wasn’t until I went to open the card that I realized that I had ADHERED THE WHOLE THING UPSIDE DOWN!!!! Lucky me, after scrapbooking for many years, lifting (very carefully) and re-adhering is something I am familiar with and though while never preferable, something I can manage to do. Whew! Especially since I didn’t have any more of this pretty blue-purple paper!

One last thing…the inside…

You Are So Special Cards Idea - Shannon Jaramillo The Stamps of Life

It occurred to me when I started to work on the inside of the card…what on earth do you finish with when you start with “You are so special to me” without coming across as creepy and stalker-ish? Well, I’ll tell you, I had to look through every stamp set I own to decide that this sentiment would be appropriate, lol. Now it can be an “I’m thinking of you” or “I’ve got your back” or “It’ll be okay” kind of card and won’t be creepy…;)

Well, there you have it, my nightly therapy all wrapped up and tidy with it’s pretty envelope!

Thanks for stopping by! I truly appreciate you!
