Oh My Gostrich! – Freshly Made Sketches 423

MFT-Stamps-Oh-My-Gostrich-Birthday-Card-Idea-Shannon-Jaramillo-stampinup-SU

Whattttt??? Is this the CUTEST little guy ever?!! So cute, he needs a name! Stanley! That’s it! I spent ALL day yesterday going through some family old papers and my brain was pretty fried so when I saw this darling stamp set with Stanley and his ADORABLE perky little face, I knew he was the perfect choice to shake off the melancholy.

Measurements:

  • Crumb Cake Card Base 4 1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5 1/2″
  • Layer of Old Olive Card Stock  4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Birthday Bonanza DSP 3 3/4″ x 5″

Details:

  • I built a little scene with the ostriches in keeping with the sketch layout and pulled out a whole slew of Stampin’ Blends to color Stanley and his companion (who’s pretending if we can’t see him, it can’t possibly be his birthday). I started with Light Gray Granite and then worked in layers of Light and Dark Crumb Cake and Light and Dark Soft Suede for their bodies. Legs and necks were a combination of Light Petal Pink and a Shin-Han Twin Touch Marker in Straw Yellow for the shading. Stanley’s beak is a base of Light Gray Granite with Light Pumpkin Pie layered over it and just a bit of Dark Pumpkin Pie for depth. I added strawberries to Stanley’s cheeks with Dark Petal Pink.
  • Oliver (it’s his birthday) is hiding his head in a pool of water stamped in Pool Party. Stanley is standing in Sahara Sand sand and the little flecks of grass were die cut in Old Olive, colored over with Light Gray Granite and touches of Wink of Stella at the tips.

  • I used Honeybee Stamp’s Sentiment Banners to help me get my stamped sentiment stamped correctly (and straight), and then cut the banner ends off – they were too distracting. I added another strip in Pretty Peacock to stay with the sketch and to bring out the pretty DSP. I also stamped a companion ostrich on the envelope – hey, I needed coloring practice! – as well as another on the inside of the card:

  • I layered the white panel over a SUPER pretty piece of Tropical Oasis DSP, stamped the sentiment and ostrich, and then, because I just happened to have a scrap of the DSP from the front of the card laying around, I added it to the inside as well. I love that the scrap was cut in such a way that the candles are perfectly displayed!

I can’t even stop smiling at Stanley and Oliver, they are SO stinking’ cute! I purchased this stamp set on a whim simply because I had an email in my inbox a few weeks ago from MFT Stamps with a pop up sale on a few retiring items – I’m so happy that I indulged in this set! Thank you Kim for your awesome sketch this week over at Freshly Made Sketches – it made my stretch my comfort zone a bit and design a scene instead of just using one image! And a BIG thank you to Amy for picking my card last week!

Pretty Poppies Healing Wishes – Tic Tac Toe Challenge #15

Good Morning! It’s Thursday and that means a new challenge from the Tic Tac Toe design team! This week’s board was designed by Rosanne Mulhern, one of my favorite clean and simple designers!

There are so many fun options to choose from that I couldn’t make a decision, so…I tried to use them all! I managed all but two – baby and embossing:

Measurements:

  • I don’t have any measurements today other than the standard card base 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″. The other layers were created using a die.

Details:

  • I loved the idea of monochromatic and yellow is one of my favorite colors I dug around in my stash until I found this bright and cheery 12″ x 12″ pattern from Echo Park. I love that the scale of the design works for both scrapbooking and card making.
  • The Mama Elephant Femme Frames die set is a staple in my stash. It creates the lovely scalloped edge on the bottom layer and a pretty stitched edge on the top layer…and best of all…no measuring! It’s done for you!

  • This stamp set, Pretty Poppies, was on the clearance rack over at MFT Stamps so I scooped it up for a steal! My Lemon Tart ink pad from PTI was a close match to the yellow in the paper and it has a matching ribbon! I had to stamp the poppies about 5 times to get the depth of color I wanted and then I applied Wink of Stella liberally. The stems and sentiment were stamped in Smokey Shadow ink. It’s a dark grey, but not quite black, for a softer feel.
  • This sweet mixed font sentiment is from the Inside & Out: Healing Touch stamp set by PTI. I set it off wish Lemon Tart satin ribbon and Lemon Meringue sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.

  • Love the inside sentiment as well and isn’t the border too cute?? It’s a border stamp by Rubbernecker Stamps…a craft show discovery!

Thank you so much for taking a peek at my project for the Tic Tac Toe design team this week and please stop by to see what the rest of the design team has for you! I hope you are inspired to play along!

Sweet Scandinavian Prints – PP 294 & FMS 235

Hello friends! I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day and were able to celebrate however and with whomever you chose! My family made me feel very special today and as soon as the festivities of Mother’s Day were over, I headed to my studio full of creative juices! I browsed challenges for inspiration and as soon as I saw the color combination from Jaydee at The Paper Players I was in love! A quick search turned up Jen M.’s great sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches and I was off to the races:)

Sweet Scandinavian Prints - PP 294 & FMS 235

I recently discovered a new stamp company and HAD to immediately order several of their stamp sets. This set called Scandinavian Prints by Neat & Tangled is like a breath of fresh air and called to me to stamp with it. It has quite a few shapes which allow you to create many, many different looks so I just pulled stamps off the sheet and started putting ink to paper with no particular plan in mind. So relaxing to stamp that way!

I used slightly different shades of the challenge colors and I love how soft and sweet they are together 🙂

And the sketch that I used showed a large sentiment across the bottom third of the card but I chose to go long and narrow instead so I could use stamps from the same set. The font is so cute paired with the stamps!

Sweet Scandinavian Prints - PP 294 & FMS 235

Here’s a closer look at the images. I used Sweet Blush, Lemon Tart, and Spring Moss by Papertrey Ink; Soft Lilac by Altenew; and Smoky Slate by Stampin’ Up!. I also applied Wink of Stella to the flowers and the sparkle is beautiful!! I raised the focal panel (which has a subtle piercing detail around the edge) and matted it with Sweet Blush and Smoky Slate cardstock. I raised the sentiment banner as well and tucked two clear sequins in to provide just a teeny tiny bit more detail.

A card like this validates the purchase price of the MISTI every.single.time.

Here are the challenge banners I played along with today, and I think I’m sneaking in just under the wire with the FMS challenge!

Simply Said – Fusion Card Challenge Woodgrain Neutral

Hi friends! It’s time for a new challenge at the Fusion Card Challenge! The photo inspiration is much different this time. Last time we had bright colors with flowers and this time we have a much different feel to the flowers:

Simply Said - Fusion Card Challenge Woodgrain Neutral

I love the rustic feel to everything in the photo. I had an idea pop into my head but what I created turned out a bit differently than I had imagined!

Simply Said - Fusion Card Challenge Woodgrain Neutral

My first thought was to find a pattern paper to mimic the black and white polka dots, which I did. But I also pulled out a wood grain pattern as well as a floral. Even though the inspiration photo doesn’t really have much color, I couldn’t seem to help myself 🙂

Details:

  • I stayed true to the sketch and used stitched dies on every piece. It’s there at the edges of the black and white background paper, around the floral pattern, the bit of green popping up as well as the oval. I find the stitching a wonderful way to add a bit of texture to my projects.
  • I pulled the colors for my bouquet from the pattern paper, ending up using inks from several different companies.
  • I wasn’t sure how I wanted to layer the flowers so I decided to just lay all of the stamps out onto white card stock and stamped them all in one color. I cleaned the stamps off, moved them on the card stock, and inked them all up in the next color. The MISTI made this process so quick and easy, as well as allowing me to re-stamp to get a fully stamped image.
  • I don’t dies for this stamp set so I ran the whole sheet of stamped images through my Brother ScanNCut and it cut them all out for me…I’m really enjoying all of the new tools on the market for stampers and scrappers! I thought I would share some photos of the process:

  • After arranging the flowers and stamping the sentiment, I added two banners to the floral pattern, tying in both the background and envelope print.Simply Said - Fusion Card Challenge Woodgrain Neutral

I added Wink of Stella to the flower centers and a few random spots. And of course, I finished the inside (this is my goal this year…to finish the of my cards while I still have the stamps out!

Doodle Buds – Fusion Card Challenge 2nd Anniversary!

Hello and Happy New Year, wherever you are! I have had quite a long break, well, from everything really, and I’m ready to take on some challenges!! Today’s challenge is from the Fusion Card Challenge and has some awesome inspiration!! In addition, it’s the Fusion Card Challenge‘s 2nd Anniversary so we have even MORE inspiration for you!

First, here’s the challenge graphic:

Cheerful Flowers

The bright colors really make me wish for summer!! I was inspired by the colors, the white space, the flowers, and by the bold chevron pattern:

Doodle Buds - Fusion Card Challenge 2nd Anniversary!

It was tough, but I decided to use up the last of my favorite paper for this card. I used it here and have been hoarding this last piece ever since 🙂 I also used one of my Christmas presents, the Stitched Mini Scallop Oval Dies by My Favorite Things Stamps…they are brand new and fabulous!! And then I spent a bit of time coloring my flowers, I quite pleased with how they came out 🙂 Here’s a closer look:

Doodle Buds - Fusion Card Challenge 2nd Anniversary!

And you can finally see the Wink of Stella! Gotta have some sparkles! I thought it needed a bit more of the vibrant pink so I added a few sequins for an extra pop of color.

Since it is the Fusion Card Challenge‘s 2nd Anniversary, we decided to each invite a guest designer to play along with us and provide even more inspiration for you! My guest designer is Sandy Mathis.

Cheerful FlowersShe is an amazing card maker, posting one fresh and innovative card after another. I am so inspired by her work! And today’s card is another beauty!!

Doodle Buds - Fusion Card Challenge 2nd Anniversary!

I adore the splashes of green alongside the bright and cheerful flowers. The flowers have been die cut for added visual interest and the addition of the soft blue color in the background really makes everything pop. And the coloring? Too cute! I will have to use her technique on my next flower card! Please hop on over to Stamp with Sandy to see all the details and to leave her some love 🙂 A big thank you to Sandy for sharing your art with us this week at the Fusion Card Challenge!
