Masculine Vintage Leaves – 30 Day Card Challenge, Day 14

Hello my stamping friends! I’m excited to see the number “14” in the title of my blog post today…I’m almost halfway through my 30 day “post a card a day”challenge!! Today’s card was made with a 20-something young professional in mind. I hope he’s not too old to receive a hand made card from his mom 😉

The Details:

  • The card base is Tip Top Taupe, cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and scored at 4 1/4″
  • The next layer is Early Espresso trimmed to 5 1/4″ x 4″
  • The stamped layer is 5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″. I trimmed it close so just a peek of Early Espresso would be visible.

  • I wanted a nice masculine pattern and color palette so Stampin’ Up!’s Moroccan Designer Series Paper is the color inspiration for today’s card.
  • Guy Greetings is the source of this classically styled birthday greeting. I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to stamp it repeatedly over the card face in Early Espresso, Tip Top Taupe, Cajun Craze and Delightful Dijon

  • Fall leaves seemed like the perfect focal point. These leave are from Vintage Leaves and are stamped in Early Espresso onto Tip Top Taupe and Cajun Craze card stock and then die cut using the coordinating Leaflets Framelits Dies.
  • Linen Thread peeks out from behind the leaves to ground them and a little knot of thread sits on top as an additional accent.

  • Stampin’ Up!’s Party with Cake provides the sentiment today, stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black, along with three silly little candles stamped in Cajun Craze and Delightful Dijon to dress it up.

The Paper Players challenge this week is clean and simple: leaf so I’m thrilled to link up and play along with their great group!

And my card also fits the Seize the Birthday challenge where their theme is “Anything Goes” Birthday with the added topping of: “Lots of Leaves” so I am playing along there as well! Whew!

I’m tickled with today’s project, the colors really balance well and make me happy. And with the wind blowing yesterday and today, there are LOTS of leaves on the ground! It’s almost like fall here in Southern California!! (Almost)

Believe it or not, the designer series paper I am showcasing today is from the same pack of paper that I used on my Wednesday card, Stampin’ Up’s Blooms & Bliss. I’m enjoying the wide range of colors available in each pack of 12′ x 12′ paper as I feel I can get more mileage from each pack of paper.

The Details:

  • Once again, I let the paper do the hard part, coordination. I might not know what goes well with Mint Macaron right off the top of my head, but the detail in the flowered paper tells me that Island Indigo and Sahara Sand will pair well.
  • I typically will mat all of the elements on my project with the same color mat, however, as with many rules, there is always an exception, and this card is it! I mixed up the matting colors to make sure that each patterned paper would “pop”.
  • The Birthday Banners stamp set when paired with the Banners Framelits makes a quick banner simple! A second banner in Island Indigo provides a striking mat.
  • The Large Polka Dot Embossing Folder adds a subtle texture.

  • Stampin’ Up’s gold metallic thread is perfect for adding “just a bit of something”. I love the texture it adds to my project. Applying Snail all over the back of the banner gives lots of sticky surface to adhere the gold thread to. Once finished, I popped the whole thing up on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The stamps I used on the inside of the card are from the Party with Cake stamp set. Because as you know, birthday and vacation calories don’t count…

My inspiration today came from the talented Freshly Made Sketches design team. They provide wonderful ideas each and every week!FMS Final 240-001

Celebrate With Cake – Pals Paper Arts 284

Happy Friday to you!! I’be been seeing some darling creations with the new sketch over at the Pals Paper Arts challenge so I decided I wanted to get in on the action:

Cute?? I’m obviously enamored of Melon Mambo which is funny because I’ve not really used it much in the past 🙂

Don’t be afraid to go bold! Here I’ve paired two large bold patterns together and then added a large bold sentiment on top.

I’ve been trying for ages to incorporate a doily onto a card…this one has been sponged with Tip Top Taupe ink and then covered liberally with Wink of Stella. Can you see the sparkle?

For an added bonus, I also added sparkle to the word “Celebrate”. A bit of ribbon and a few darling Enamel Dots round the card off.

And always remember, birthday calories don’t count !! 😉
