Clean and Simple Dragonfly Dreams

Stampin-Up-Dragonfly-Dreams-Love-Friendship-Card-Idea-Shannon-Jaramillo-stampinup

This weekend I wanted to show a friend how the MISTI (Most Incredible Stamping Tool Invented) works. I just grabbed a stamp set and started stamping – NOT how I usually work. That saying “Hold on while I overthink it” fits me to a T!! Somewhere along the way I fell in love with what I had created and realized that it can be fun to just sit down and play!

Details:

  • This is literally the first time I have inked this set up! I stamped the outline of the dragonfly in Tuxedo Black Memento ink and demonstrated how, if the first stamp isn’t sharp enough, you can re-stamp it easily! Then I added the wings detail stamp in Sweet Sugarplum (randomly picked from my inks), demonstrating how easy it is to line layered stamps up and make sure you get it right! Wink of Stella adds a pretty sparkle to the wings and body of the dragonfly.
  • Next came the sentiment. The grid lines on the MISTI make it simple to get the sentiment stamped straight and without the dreaded “shadow” that can happen with a wood stamp or acrylic block.
  • A simple snippet of sparkly (retired) ribbon stapled to the card with the retired Stampin’ Up! stapler and a few layers of card stock and BOOM! done! Super pretty and super fast – I think it took me less than 10 minutes from start to finish!
  • The envelope is lined with retired DSP, the perfect shades for this card!

  • I kept the inside simple with no layers this time…just a pretty sentiment!

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you will check back in soon for more inspiration!

Gingham Garden Birthday – Tic Tac Toe Challenge #6

Good Morning! I hope your weekend has been a good one! Today I am playing along with the latest Tic Tac Toe Challenge! This week’s fun board was created by Shannon Fralish. There were so many fun options to choose from, but in the end I went with the top row: shadow, layers and square:

Details:

  • Can you see all my squares?!? I’m pretty sure a gingham pattern qualifies for squares 🙂 I had to pull from my retired stash for this oldie but goodie. It’s from the Gingham Garden Designer Series Paper pack and is about, oh, five years old? I absolutely could not part with this cheerful paper!
  • Layers, layers, layers. When in doubt, add a layer 🙂 I built several layers using the Island Indigo pattern paper and Basic Black card stock.

  • Shadow. This was was a cinch! I cut two of the Happy Birthday die cuts and then glued them together with the Basic Black die cut slightly offset to create the shadow.
  • I adore these flowers and tend to reach for them when I need a small detail. I stamped them using a flower stamp from the Best Birds stamp set and die cut them with the coordinating die. Are they the sweetest popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals and with matching retired Candy Dots for their centers?
  • The simple knot from retired Island Indigo cotton ribbon pulls everything together and then I carried the theme over to my envelope as well.

  • Inside is a sweet sentiment from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set. I love the curly font!

I hope you are inspired to play along with the Tic Tac Toe Challenge this week! It closes on Tuesday at noon CST so you still have time!! Please pop over to the Tic Tic Toe Challenge and see what our designers have cooked up to inspire you this week!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a crafty day!!

Christmas in July – Freshly Made Sketches 295

Stampin-Up-Santa's-Sleigh-Christmas-Card-Idea-Shannon-Jaramillo-stampinup

I know…you’re thinking “whhaaaattttt????” But it IS July and despite the fact that it was 106 degrees yesterday, we cannot hide from the fact that Christmas is only 170 days away! Time to start thinking about those beautiful handmade cards we promise ourselves we are going to create and send out every year…let’s make THIS the year we actually DO it!!

Details:

  • When I think of Christmas cards, I think of sending everyone a beautifully detailed, intricate one-of-a-kind Christmas card…and then I wake up and realize that the only way I will EVER get done is to mass produce! So…I make cards that can easily be recreated and for me that means simple and BOLD.
  • I absolutely adore this particular pattern from the Be Merry Designer Series Paper pack, it is SO striking! I originally had the entire background as this pattern paper but in the end relented, if only to follow the challenge sketch…so I added it as an envelope liner instead 🙂

  • Are you wondering if those white splatters are a mistake?? Nope! The paper comes that way and I LOVE it! It adds such a fun texture to the design!
  • Simple stamps and their coordinating dies, both called Santa’s Sleigh, make an eye-catching focal point without a lot of fuss – always a plus in my book! Santa’s Sleigh is a carryover from last year’s holiday catalog and I am delighted to have another year to play with it!!
  • I have been pondering this Merry Christmas sentiment from the Better Together stamp set for a long time, trying to figure out what to use it with so it would look good…I think it works perfectly in this design, very graphic and clean!
  • The simple wreath, stamped in Garden Green, around the reindeer’s neck added a sweet pop of color to an otherwise monochromatic card. I stamped it, die cut it, and made a snip at the top so I could wrap it around the reindeer’s neck.
  • I added a small strip of Cherry Cobbler card stock at the top of the pattern paper. I thought it was a nice detail to have it popping out above the ribbon. The ribbon is retired, probably from last year, but I didn’t have any current ribbon in Cherry Cobbler and this ribbon is so soft and flexible, it makes a great looking knot!
  • The large enamel dot is retired product as well but I used it in conjunction with two other sizes of Cherry Cobbler Enamel Shapes for a fun detail that also goes along with the sketch. So cute!

  • I used the coordinating stamp from the Better Together stamp set to stamp the inside of my holiday card. You could easily stamp directly onto the inside of the card without adding the Cherry Cobbler card stock frame…I just like layers 🙂

This sketch from Narelle of the Freshly Made Sketches design team was my jumping off point for my first Christmas card of the year:

A big THANK YOU to Narelle and the whole team for their inspiration week in and week out…you guys keep me stamping!!

I’m so glad you popped by today. I would love to hear if you have started your cards yet or when you plan on getting started!

Butterfly Basics Bold Birthday – Tic Tac Toe Challenge #5

Stampin-Up-Butterfly-Basics-Birthday-Card-Idea-Shannon-Jaramillo-stampinup

It’s Thursday and that means a new Tic Tac Toe challenge! The Tic Tac Toe challenge board is such a fun concept to aid you in designing your unique projects. Each square represents an element that you can use in your design. Simply chose any elements/supplies on the board as long as the three elements form a vertical row, horizontal column, or on the diagonal. That’s it! Pick from the menu and create using any supplies!

I chose the bottom row: birthday, pattern paper and pink. How fun is THAT?

Stampin-Up-Butterfly-Basics-Birthday-Card-Ideas-Shannon-Jaramillo-stampinup

Details:

  • I chose to highlight this delicate bloom from the Butterfly Basics stamp set. I stamped it in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, using a post it to mask off the area for the sentiment
  • After I stamped the flower, I went back and positioned the sentiment in he masked off area. The ability to do this is why I love photopolymer stamps. And the MISTI. It makes stamping a dream!
  • I thought about coloring in the bloom but in the end decided to leave it as is. I think it makes such a statement in black, framed by the Powder Pink card stock and the bold black pattern paper from the Pick A Pattern Designer Series Paper pack.

  • And I had to fuss with it a bit, but I was DETERMINED to use this 3/8″ Shimmer ribbon again. It has the most wonderful sparkle to it…I want to use it on everything! And the sparkle really stands out with the black ribbon.
  • It didn’t photograph well, but I went over all the shaded areas of the bloom and stem with Wink of Stella and the effect is stunning.
  • Two retired Candy Dots provide a bit of balance to the upper left hand corner of my card.

  • I SO wanted to add a butterfly to my card and couldn’t make it work on the front, so I added one to the inside as well as adding several in black to the envelope. The lace pattern of the stamped butterfly looks AMAZING in the black ink!!

Please take a moment to see what the other designers have created with this week’s board over at the Tic Tac Toe Challenge and then pick YOU three elements and play along!! Hope to see you over in the gallery!! XX

Quick & Easy Card Idea

It’s the Fourth of July here in the States, time to celebrate our heritage and rejoice in our freedoms! A day for parades, hot dogs, BBQ’s, and fireworks! We usually go to the ball park to celebrate with good ole baseball and fireworks, but this year I have to work tomorrow 🙁 so I will be going to bed with a pillow over my head! lol

Big-on-Birthdays-Gorgeous-Grunge-Birthday-Cards-Ideas-Shannon-Jaramillo-stampinup

So I decided to celebrate the day with paper crafts instead! Today’s card is sooooo quick and easy you may want to make a bunch of them!

Details:

  • I actually saw a similar card done with watercolor splatters and I thought “Hey! I can make that so easily using the Gorgeous Grunge splatter stamp!” And so a card was born…

Big-on-Birthdays-Gorgeous-Grunge-Birthday-Card-Idea-Shannon-Jaramillo-stampinup

  • I stamped the splatter stamp from the now retired but ever so useful Gorgeous Grunge stamp set in three complimentary colors: Old Olive, Bermuda Bay and Calypso Coral.
  • I then stamped this AWESOME birthday sentiment from the Big on Birthdays stamp set in Tuxedo Black ink.
  • Three little clusters of sequins finish the card off perfectly!
  • I pulled out my retired stash for the envelope liner. This pattern is from the Best Year Ever DSP pack, probably two springs catalogs ago now

Big-on-Birthdays-Gorgeous-Grunge-Birthday-Cards-Idea-Shannon-Jaramillo-stampinup

  • The inside is very clean as well with just a single sentiment from the Birthday Banners stamp set.

Honestly, there are so many possibilities for cards with this concept! Any large sentiment will work! And if your sentiment is horizontal rather than vertical, just change the orientation of the splatter stamp! Cute, Quick and easy to mass produce! And flat for mailing too!

Thanks for stopping by today. I’d love to hear your thoughts on how you might use this idea!
