  • Coloring terrifies me but even knowing that, I keep buying stamps that need to be colored!! And these darling Doodled Birds from JustRite Stamps begged me to add color so I pulled out my Shin-Han markers and played a bit. It’s not professional by any means but it makes me happy 🙂
  • I added a bit of black card stock with the sentiment embossed in white for an added pop
  • Random pretty sequins adhered with glue dots reinforce the whimsical feel

Bloomin’ Buttercups – Freshly Made Sketches 273

Bloomin' Buttercups Card Idea - Shannon Jaramillo

The bright and beautiful weather outside today has inspired my color palette today! Can’t help but be happy when the sun is shining and the windows are open!

When I peeked at the Freshly Made Sketches challenge today, I was so inspired by Jen Mitchell’s card. We seem to have an affinity for Rubbernecker Stamps and seeing her card made me just HAVE to pull one out! And it’s never seen ink before…even better!

Bloomin' Buttercups Card Ideas - Shannon Jaramillo

As quite often happens, today’s card started life in a completely different state but a funny accident happened along the way! I had stamped the flowers in a Sunshine ink, which is a bright yellow (buttercups, of course!) and then added the background elements and realized I should have started with the stripes first. So, I started over but by the time I got to the flowers I had added the background paper so I decided to stamp the flowers in blue instead. I chose Sea Glass by Simon Says Stamp which is a soft blue, but the flowers came out this most unexpected green-y blue!  I was surprised but in love!! Then I had to start over again (I forget why) and this time when I stamped my flowers using Sea Glass, they were a completely different shade of blue than they were the first time….WHAT?!?

It turned out that I had forgotten to clean the stamp after stamping it in Sunshine ink so when I stamped it the second time in Sea Glass ink, I made a new color! Which was the PERFECT shade of blue, but now I had to re-create it! Ackkk!! Luckily I managed it. It’s so funny how things happen…

When I saw Karren’s sketch and looked through my stamps, I KNEW this was the stamp I had to use. But I couldn’t figure out how to incorporate the three horizontal elements. After much agony, I decided to use this background element stamp by Papertrey Ink. I stamped with the same stamp three times in Soft Stone, just moving my paper up as I went and stamping over twice for the middle stripe and three times for the bottom stripe to create a graduated effect. I love how they play off of the same soft color in the patterned paper…

By the time I got to the sentiment I realized that I should have masked the stems off to leave space for the sentiment (oops) so I went with Plan B and used a pierced rectangle die to die cut it and then popped it up. And I just realized that the outside border is stitched, not pierced…sigh. Getting back into the swing of things can be challenging but no matter, I still love the way this turned out!!

I added Wink of Stella to the buttercups and I’m thrilled that it actually showed up in the photographs! I LOVE the sparkle!! I threw in some sequins just because…

Thank you Karren and the Freshly Made Sketches design team for getting me going this morning!

  • Stampin’ Up!’s new Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies work perfectly with the sketch I chose to use today. I love, love, love the subtle detail they add to any project. I used three of the four sizes to create my four layers, using both card stock and designer series paper
  • I used my MISTI to stamp the flower images in Memento Ink Tuxedo Black on my focal layer as well as on a second piece of white card stock, and then simply die cut the flower shape out using the Stitched Shapes Framelits dies
  • I put sticky tape on the back of the 3/8″ White Metallic Ribbon and adhered it to my card front, snipping off the right side after I adhered it. I LOVE the subtle shine it provides!
  • The MISTI made quick work of positioning my sentiment – love the font!!

  • I used my Wisteria Wonder Stampin’ Marker and a blender pen to add color to my floral stem – easy peasy! – and left the stem uncolored for contrast
  • Enamel Dots are my fun and easy go-to for adding a pop of color!

Both the Avant-Garden stamp set I used here today and the 3/8″ Metallic Ribbon are both Sale-A-Bration items, which means they are available to get FREE – one item for every $50 spent!! What are you waiting for???

Inspiration for today’s card was provided by the fun sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches:

Thank you so much for stopping by today! I would love to hear what you think of today’s color choice! Love it? Hate it? I’m a Prince fan so purple is a ‘thing’ for me. It’s funny that I don’t decorate my house with it but when I buy flowers to plant in the garden? Always purple!

I looked to my favorite challenge blog for layout inspiration for today’s card:

Thank you to all these wonderful ladies for providing inspiration each and every week!

So what do you think? It’s pretty simple, I know, but not having put ink to paper in almost three months, I have to start somewhere!

Thank you so much for your continued message of courage and inspiration while I have been away, I have read and deeply appreciated each and every one. The world is still a very scary place for me, but little by little, I feel the fog lifting and look forward to each new day.

Remarkable You – Freshly Made Sketches 247

Stampin' Up! Remarkable You More Thinking of You Card Ideas - Shannon Jaramillo Stampinup

I’m humbled to be this week’s hostess for the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge. I’ve created a sketch that can be interpreted many ways…I can’t wait to see what you do with it!

FMS Final 247-001

How are you inspired to create a card? Do you start by going through your paper stash? Or going through your stamp stash? Do you cruise through Pinterest? All of those are great options and work well for me. I’d love to hear what inspires you!

For today’s card, I browsed my paper stash and found two patterns of paper in the Scenic Sayings 6×6 paper stack. I loved the way the colors played off of each other so I pulled out them out!

Helpful Hints:

  • Color Coordination – Delightful Dijon and Old Olive are both colors used in the Serene Scenery 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper Stack and look amazing together! I paired them up with Chocolate Chip and rounded off with Very Vanilla
  • It’s easy to keep design minimal with the bold and graphic images in the Remarkable You stamp set.
  • Have you seen the Thoughtful Branches Stamp Set? It will be only be available for purchase August 1st through 31st! The font on the sentiments is amazing!

  • A simple way to ground your design is to make sure all three elements, in this case the flower, the sentiment and the heart, touch.
  • I borrowed a trick from my up-line Mary Fish’s bag and punched a heart from the Curvy Keepsake Box Thinly Dies in Cherry Cobbler. I love the pop of color it provides!

I had so much fun with this week’s sketch and I look forward to seeing your creations on the Freshly Made Sketches challenge blog!
