Filled With Joy – Make It Monday #196

Happy Saturday my friends!! The first week back after the holidays is always action packed, I’m so looking forward to some crafty time today!

I have two inspirations today…The first is Papertrey Ink’s Make It Monday Challenge to fill up those corners! The second inspiration is also from Papertrey Ink. It’s their January 2015 Inspiration Archive’s Color Combination…isn’t this combination amazing?

When I pulled these colors of cardstock out, I truly gasped…they are SO pretty together!

I needed to use at least one Papertrey Ink product for these challenges so I went to the PTI section of my stamp storage and found a delightful stamp set that was an exclusive gift if you purchased a minimum amount order…so of course, I did! The stamp set is called Filled with Joy and has very elegant looking flowers and leaves in it, perfect for this color combination!

What do you think? I couldn’t just fill one corner, I had to fill them both! And can I say, my new MISTI sure got a workout on this card! Just lots and lots of images and color, and the sentiment…so sweet! Love the font! And love that there are lots of options to switch out the saying, this one just worked for me.

You will have to take my word for it that every leaf and flower on this card is covered liberally with Wink of Stella…it’s sooo sparkly pretty!!

And I did not stop at the front…

Yep, more stamps from this set! I also threw in this little dot stamp from Rustic Wreath. It’s a go-to stamp for me now, it’s so easy to add little dots of interest and color to just about anything!

I also decided to enter this card into the Anything-Goes-As Long-As-It’s-New challenge over at NBUS (never-before-used-schtuff) since everything is new and I can enter more than once 🙂

Favorite Flowers – Freshly Made Sketches #168

I am so happy so see Freshly Made Sketches return from their holiday hiatus! Of course, everyone needs a break but I have been itching to get back to sketches! lol And they did not disappoint, they are back with a super fun, simple sketch from Amy.

I’m also playing along with the Anything-Goes-As Long-As-It’s-New challenge over at NBUS (never-before-used-schtuff):

So cute!

After much pondering, this is what I created with the sketch:

The first thing I did was find three patterned papers that I wanted to use for my layers. Then to choose a stamp set…so many choices! I finally narrowed it down to one stamp set, Favorite Flowers by Simon Says Stamp. I chose it because it had scribbled flower stamps and I thought they matched the patterned paper that I ended up lining the envelope with.

I actually purchased this stamp set a little while ago, just for the scribbled flowers. But when the stamp set came, I just stared at it and had no inspiration. Zero, ziltch, nada. I’ve been pulling it out, looking at it, and putting it back for weeks. Finally, with this card, I just decided to start stamping and see what happened!

I’m SO pleased with how it turned out. I just stamped randomly, with no pattern in mind, adding things to balance it all out. I must have used a zillion inks!

I forgot to mention that I ran all my papers through my Big Shot with one of the Stitched Rectangle Mats from Lil’ Inker. I just love the bit of detail the stitching provides!

And if you haven’t read any of my previous posts, you need a MISTI. Most Incredible Stamp Tool Ever. And it is. Watch the video and then order yours. If you are a stamper, you need it. I can’t believe how wonderfully easy it is to use and how perfectly it stamps!!

So there’s my card for today…I love it! I think it looks like a party is going to be going on!! And can be used for so many celebratory events from making the team, or getting your driver’s license, to finding out you are pregnant to getting that raise/new job! Cute, simple and easy to mail 🙂

Thanks so much for stopping by, I truly appreciate your visit and love to read your comments!!

Wishing you joy and blessing!

You’re My Shining Star for The Paper Players

pp226

Welcome to the first Sunday of the year, the first Paper Players challenge of the year, and my first post as a guest designer for The Paper Players…that’s A LOT of firsts! Whew!

The talented Ann Marie Hile is the hostess for the challenge this week and she has chosen an “Everything Old is New Again” theme challenge to create something out of a recycled or re-purposed item.

Watermarked Blog Posts_2-013

I admit to stark terror when I saw the theme. I like things new and shiny and have very little imagination for re-purposing. I have always avoided this theme in the past!! But…I put the theme on the back burner and just let it percolate. Christmas Day came and went and I held back a few items that I thought that I might be able to use. Still percolating. Then came my anniversary and one of my gifts was packaged in this darling little sack:

Aha!! Burlap and canvas-y items are all the rage so I was sure I could do something with this! Yes!!

So I sat down with my 6×6 pattern paper container and started the process. When I found this weathered blue paper, I knew it was money. Perfect for the theme and a perfect tone for the canvas!

Watermarked Blog Posts_2-019

Now, my blue paper was antiqued around all four sides but when I trimmed it to fit my card base, two side were no longer antiqued. Ugh. But never fear, a blending tool and Tim Holtz’s Antique Linen Distress Ink solved that problem for me! The other papers were pulled from the same pad.

I chose to use Clearly Besotted’s Superstar stamp set and matching dies to create my embellishment. To keep it from fraying, I attached a small piece of adhesive sheet to the back of the canvas before stamping and die-cutting. I then added a layer of white cardstock to the back to stiffen it up.

I also added a piece of adhesive sheet to the back of my canvas layer, slightly smaller than my canvas piece, prior to using a stitched rectangle die to cut my canvas layer. I then pulled a few of the threads out from the sides to slightly weather the canvas. I love the look of the stitching…it just adds more texture!

The leather drawstring for the bag is the perfect layer of texture! I thought it was going to be a bow at first but it was too thick, I actually like it better this way. What do you think?

Of course, I was having too much fun to stop, so I used Clearly Besotted’s Superstar and Dandelion Dreams stamp sets to decorate the inside of the card:

I think this is a graduation card. Can you think of another occasion for it?

So there you have it, my attempt at re-purposing! I’m pleased with how it turned out, especially since I was terrified of the challenge! And that’s why it’s called a challenge, right?? lol

Please visit The Paper Players to see the wonderful inspiration the rest of the design team has created for you!

Thank you for stopping by today! I would be delighted if you would let me know what you think of my project today!!

Wishing you joy and blessings!!
