Let Your Dreams Take Flight – CAS(E) This Sketch #362

What?!? Purple AGAIN?? Absolutely!! I am over the moon for the combination of Highland Heather and Seaside Spray! Isn’t it delightful? It’s raining today in Southern California and I think the rain outside has affected my color choices 🙂

Measurements:

  • Highland Heather Card Base 4 1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5 1/2″
  • Seaside Spray Card Stock 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • White Card Stock 3 3/4″ x 5″

Details:

  • Super simple design today for the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge today! I came across this darling hot air balloon and KNEW it was THE one! I have used it before here and I really wanted to color it again, this time with alcohol markers. It was SO quick and easy to color!!

  • Honestly, I went through every.single.stamp. I own to find the right sentiment for the sketch! But I’m very happy with the one I finally decided on. It’s from a very old set (I think) that I purchased secondhand, in a jumble of sets actually, by a company I have never heard of, but it was hot air balloons so I kept it and I’m so glad I did!
  • Once again, I have used gems from Honeybee Stamps. They really have a fantastic selection of colors!!

  • Mmmm, I added Wink of Stella to the base and top of the balloon for a soft shimmer (which you can only just barely see, but it’s there!). And an itty Bitty Calypso Coral banner up top!

  • A quick peek at the inside sentiments, which I think would work wonderfully for a graduation, a job change, or even a move to a new city!

Thank you to the CAS(E) This Sketch design team for their wonderful inspiration this week! It’s been a bit since I played – so glad I jumped in this week!!

Blessings to you!!

Blue Skies Ahead

Hello again my crafty friends! It’s both the end of the FSJ catalog year (June 30th) and the lead up into the new catalog year (July 1st!) and the week after convention so I have SO much to share! In my efforts to create swaps for convention as well as reorganize my craft space I have not had a chance to play with many of products in the current Trends Mini Catalog, which is a shame as it has some absolutely darling products in it! One of my favorite stamp sets in the mini is called Blue Skies. It features the Blue Skies stamp set, the Blue Skies die set, and of course the Blue Skies Bundle which is both the stamp set and the die set at a savings of 10%! Yep, we love bundles!!

Measurements:

  • Card Base 4 1/2″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • Stamped Image Layer 4″ x 5 1/4″

Details:

  • I wanted the focus of this card to be the gorgeous balloon stamp so I used a Whip Cream card base and then used the 5″ x 3 7/8″ Journey Rectangle Die to add a fun pierced edge to my stamped layer.
  • I stamped the balloon from the Blue Skies stamp set using Black Licorice True Color Fusion Ink Pad. The beauty of this ink pad, besides it’s nice vivid stamped color, is that it will work on any surface, including paper, wood, fabric, and acrylic, and becomes permanent when heat-set on non-paper materials. So no smearing or remembering which black ink pad to use with which coloring medium – you just need this one pad!
  • The coloring was done in a beautiful palette of colors from a challenge I was participating in, and colored with the Color Burst Colored Pencils. These colored pencils come in a metal tin, are numbered, and have all of the color combinations needed for matching all of the awesome FSJ colors! So cool!!

  • Now, I’m a novice colorer, but I am really pleased with how this turned out. I had some help from the Color Burst Blenders – they really did a great job of smoothly out those coloring lines!

  • If you will notice, I offset the balloon stamp a bit to the right on my card stock panel to leave room for a sentiment. At some point during the creation of this card, I decided this would be a wonderful graduation card for my niece, who was graduating from college (so proud of her) so I pulled out the Begin Adventure ATS stamp and inked up this darling sentiment. Isn’t it just perfect for a graduation card? I love it and can’t wait to see where her adventure takes her! I offset the sentiment image to the left to balance my card out. Can you tell that the word ‘adventure’ in the sentiment is a bit bolder than the other words? I LOVE that extra touch!!!
  • And Of course I needed to add sparkle to my card in the form of Journey Sequins Bloom Time. But once I added my traditional 3 sequins, I went crazy and added more to the balloon – so pretty!
  • DON’T WAIT if you love this bundle! It will only be available through THIS Saturday, June 30th!!
  • The Inking the Way Journey Coach challenge was the inspiration for my colors today – so beautiful! I needed to use at least three of the colors so I focused on Huckleberry Fusion, Beach Ball and Summer Days 🙂

REMEMBER, if you would like to receive the NEW and AWESOME 2018-19 Fun Stampers Journey catalog, please email me with your address information! Chalk Sayings – SSSC265

Happy Hump Day!! I was able to do a bit of stamping this weekend and I thought that the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge would be a great way to showcase some new stamps I picked up on Saturday!

1-IMG_8186Aren’t they FUN?? I used a set from The Stamps of Life called morechalksayings2stamp. I chose this combination of sentiments so that this card would be able to cover a wide variety of situations…birthday of course, but also graduation, new job, making the team, passing the test, getting the promotion, LOTS of things, right? I used my MISTI to align the greeting up perfectly within my square, as well as the sentiment within the banner. Love that tool!

I also broke out some papers from The Stamps of Life April card kit. I love the cheerful squiggles and the green highlights them! I also used some of the twin from the card kit, I’m in love with the fact that it has THREE colors in it! Fun!!

I originally envisioned a clean white backdrop but ended up adding a few polka dots 🙂 They are actually a flower base stamp from a Simon Says Stamp set, but I really like the perfectly imperfect circles they create! I also added little confetti pops with a bit of sparkle in the center…such a happy card!

3-IMG_8188The Stamps of Life manufacturing facility is located relatively close to me, in Irvine, CA and several time a year they open their facility for a card class taught by the owner/designer Stephanie Bernard, as well opening a small shop located within their manufacturing facility. I was fortunate to attend both this weekend!! Here is a picture of the card class:

2-IMG_8172And here is a peek at their store and Stephanie mingling with the crowd:

1-IMG_8171It was quite crowded in there but I managed to acquire some fun new goodies to share with you, including the stamp set I used here today! I was also fortunate enough to be able to meet and chat with Stephanie one-on-one for a bit! She’s just as sweet in person as she is in her videos!

Thank you for stopping by!!

Wishing you joy and blessings!

Filled With Joy – Make It Monday #196

Happy Saturday my friends!! The first week back after the holidays is always action packed, I’m so looking forward to some crafty time today!

I have two inspirations today…The first is Papertrey Ink’s Make It Monday Challenge to fill up those corners! The second inspiration is also from Papertrey Ink. It’s their January 2015 Inspiration Archive’s Color Combination…isn’t this combination amazing?

6a00d8341c64e753ef01bb07cfce50970d-450wi

When I pulled these colors of cardstock out, I truly gasped…they are SO pretty together!

Watermarked Blog Posts_2-041

I needed to use at least one Papertrey Ink product for these challenges so I went to the PTI section of my stamp storage and found a delightful stamp set that was an exclusive gift if you purchased a minimum amount order…so of course, I did! The stamp set is called Filled with Joy and has very elegant looking flowers and leaves in it, perfect for this color combination!

Watermarked Blog Posts_2-044

What do you think? I couldn’t just fill one corner, I had to fill them both! And can I say, my new MISTI sure got a workout on this card! Just lots and lots of images and color, and the sentiment…so sweet! Love the font! And love that there are lots of options to switch out the saying, this one just worked for me.

You will have to take my word for it that every leaf and flower on this card is covered liberally with Wink of Stella…it’s sooo sparkly pretty!!

And I did not stop at the front…

Watermarked Blog Posts_2-043

Yep, more stamps from this set! I also threw in this little dot stamp from Rustic Wreath. It’s a go-to stamp for me now, it’s so easy to add little dots of interest and color to just about anything!

I also decided to enter this card into the Anything-Goes-As Long-As-It’s-New challenge over at NBUS (never-before-used-schtuff) since everything is new and I can enter more than once 🙂

You’re My Shining Star for The Paper Players

pp226

Welcome to the first Sunday of the year, the first Paper Players challenge of the year, and my first post as a guest designer for The Paper Players…that’s A LOT of firsts! Whew!

The talented Ann Marie Hile is the hostess for the challenge this week and she has chosen an “Everything Old is New Again” theme challenge to create something out of a recycled or re-purposed item.

Watermarked Blog Posts_2-013

I admit to stark terror when I saw the theme. I like things new and shiny and have very little imagination for re-purposing. I have always avoided this theme in the past!! But…I put the theme on the back burner and just let it percolate. Christmas Day came and went and I held back a few items that I thought that I might be able to use. Still percolating. Then came my anniversary and one of my gifts was packaged in this darling little sack:

Watermarked Blog Posts_2-020

Aha!! Burlap and canvas-y items are all the rage so I was sure I could do something with this! Yes!!

So I sat down with my 6×6 pattern paper container and started the process. When I found this weathered blue paper, I knew it was money. Perfect for the theme and a perfect tone for the canvas!

Watermarked Blog Posts_2-019

Now, my blue paper was antiqued around all four sides but when I trimmed it to fit my card base, two side were no longer antiqued. Ugh. But never fear, a blending tool and Tim Holtz’s Antique Linen Distress Ink solved that problem for me! The other papers were pulled from the same pad.

I chose to use Clearly Besotted’s Superstar stamp set and matching dies to create my embellishment. To keep it from fraying, I attached a small piece of adhesive sheet to the back of the canvas before stamping and die-cutting. I then added a layer of white cardstock to the back to stiffen it up.

I also added a piece of adhesive sheet to the back of my canvas layer, slightly smaller than my canvas piece, prior to using a stitched rectangle die to cut my canvas layer. I then pulled a few of the threads out from the sides to slightly weather the canvas. I love the look of the stitching…it just adds more texture!

Watermarked Blog Posts_2-015

The leather drawstring for the bag is the perfect layer of texture! I thought it was going to be a bow at first but it was too thick, I actually like it better this way. What do you think?

Of course, I was having too much fun to stop, so I used Clearly Besotted’s Superstar and Dandelion Dreams stamp sets to decorate the inside of the card:

Watermarked Blog Posts_2-016

I think this is a graduation card. Can you think of another occasion for it?

So there you have it, my attempt at re-purposing! I’m pleased with how it turned out, especially since I was terrified of the challenge! And that’s why it’s called a challenge, right?? lol

Please visit The Paper Players to see the wonderful inspiration the rest of the design team has created for you!

Thank you for stopping by today! I would be delighted if you would let me know what you think of my project today!!

Wishing you joy and blessings!!
